Q) Why are most main characters in bible male?
A) That is true that most main characters in bible are male. It is because Bible was written in a patriarchal context. Patriarchal society puts male over female. However, it does not mean that Bible approves all patriarchal practices. While God uses temporal culture as its vessel or device to carry His sacred message, God redeems the culture by using the same holy word of God. That is why if we read the Bible thoroughly, even since the Old Testament stories, God has already highlighted female roles, eg. Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Moses’ mother, Ruth, Esther, etc., especially those who put strong faith in Him. The same thing happened in the New Testament where God championed godly female characters such as: Elizabeth, Mary, Pricilla, etc. These practices are so unlike the patriarchal custom and yet they happened during that time. Here we see the beauty of God’s work and God’s word.
