1. Bersabar: Bersabar adalah hal pertama untuk memberitakan Injil. Tidak ada resep ampuh kecuali bersabar. Sebab waktu Tuhan bukan waktu kita. Jangan memaksa harus segera percaya Tuhan Yesus, dll. Mengajak dan membujuk memerlukan kesabaran. Sabar tidak memikirkan kapan. Kita tidak tahu kapan orangtua kita menjadi percaya, tetapi setiap kesabaran kita pasti berbuah manis untuk orangtua kita. Yak 5:7, “Karena itu, saudara-saudara, bersabarlah sampai kepada kedatangan Tuhan! Be Prayerful: Be persistence in our prayer to God (do not give up) so that one day our parent could see the truth, and so in the meantime, there will opportunities and other people who would come and share the gospel with our parents. Prayer also requires patience. There have been people who pray for their parents for decades. The key is to be persistence in our prayer. James 5:16, “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective”.
3. Be a Good Example: Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven”. Allow your parent to see your good deeds (your transformation). Persuade them with a living example, not with words or advices. Our parents are more senior than us, do not “preach” to them but be a good example. If your parent could see how their child honour them, they will respect your faith and be willing to listen to what you have to say. Because they see that Christ, does not separate you from your parent.
4. Be Sincere: 1 Peter 3:15, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”. Sharing the truth require a good timing, a sincere heart, gentleness and respect, do not judge, do not patronize, but to be fully respectful to the parents.
5. Be Active with Other Christians: Let other Christian friends know about your parent and ask them to pray for them as well. 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing”.
6. Invite parents to join fellowship activities: Invite your parents to other church social activities without having to discuss about gospel. Through this fellowship, at least the parents will have many more Christian friends. And hope that one day the Holy Spirit will move their hearts to believe.
